About service

It is a safe and universal procedure that can be performed both in newborns and in elderly patients.

Indications for the Procedure – Who Prescribes It?
Ultrasound is a procedure that can be performed without a physician’s referral. Attentive and proactive patients, upon experiencing pain or discomfort, may undergo the examination independently. If prescribed by a physician, adults usually receive a referral from a gastroenterologist or a general practitioner.

Symptoms requiring an immediate ultrasound consultation include:

abdominal pain of various localizations,

heaviness after meals,

any digestive disorders,

nausea,

stool abnormalities (diarrhea or constipation),

abdominal bloating,

bitter taste in the mouth,

jaundice of the skin and sclerae,

abdominal trauma,

abnormal biochemical blood test results.

Other indications for ultrasound include:

alcohol abuse,

hereditary diseases of the digestive system,

risk of chemical poisoning (e.g., occupational exposure in hazardous industries).

Diseases Diagnosed by Abdominal Ultrasound
Abdominal ultrasonography helps detect structural, dimensional, morphological, and positional abnormalities of organs in both men and women. It is used to diagnose:

liver diseases (cirrhosis, hepatitis, hepatosis),

intestinal diseases (enteritis, colitis, intestinal obstruction, Crohn’s disease),

pancreatic diseases (pancreatitis, pancreatic necrosis, diabetes mellitus),

gallbladder diseases (cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, biliary dyskinesia),

cysts, benign and malignant tumors, inflammatory processes, mechanical injuries, and necrosis.

It is recommended that every person undergo abdominal ultrasound once a year, as many digestive system disorders may be asymptomatic.

The procedure is harmless, safe, and painless. With modern equipment, physicians can assess not only the organs but also circulatory abnormalities, which allows for precise diagnosis. For the early detection of oncological diseases, particular attention is given to lymph nodes.

Organs Examined During Abdominal Ultrasound
Abdominal ultrasound can reveal pathologies in the following organs:

liver,

stomach and pancreas,

gallbladder and bile ducts,

spleen,

intestines (small and large),

duodenum,

kidneys and adrenal glands,

urinary bladder and ureters,

abdominal aorta and its branches,

prostate gland,

uterus,

lymph nodes.

It is important to note that ultrasound can detect both oncological and chronic diseases of these organs.

Preparation for Abdominal Ultrasound
The main rule for the procedure is to arrive fasting. If scheduled for the morning, no food should be consumed after dinner. The digestive organs are examined in a state of rest, when they are not engaged in digestion. The required fasting period is 6 hours prior to the procedure.

If the patient has a normal build and does not suffer from excessive gas formation, no dietary restrictions are necessary. However, if flatulence is present, sweets, fresh fruits and vegetables, carbonated beverages, and dairy products should be excluded from the diet the day before the examination.

How the Procedure is Performed
The procedure is carried out as follows:

The patient informs the physician about complaints and medical history. Then, they undress to the waist and lie down on a disposable sheet.

The probe is covered with gel to enhance sound wave conduction.

The physician scans the organs using the probe and may ask the patient to hold their breath for better visualization.

The abdominal cavity is displayed on the monitor. The physician measures the organs, recording the parameters independently or dictating them to an assistant.

Once the procedure is completed, the patient wipes off the gel with tissues and gets dressed.
