Blood Plasmapheresis

Plasmaferesis — one of the methods for detoxifying the body from toxic substances, metabolic products, allergens, and autoimmune antibodies.

High-tech body detoxification is used for the prevention and treatment of a number of diseases and is indicated for pregnant women. It helps to restore the function of all organs and systems and prolong life.

Indications for the procedure

It is used as the main or auxiliary treatment for more than two hundred diseases:

autoimmune pathologies
infections
diabetes mellitus
skin diseases: herpes, psoriasis, etc.
poisoning with toxins and chemicals, intoxications
oncological diseases
extensive erythrocyte destruction
coagulation disorders
hemolytic-uremic syndrome
terminal ileitis

Effect of the procedure

Blood purification allows:

Purify blood at a deep level — eliminate metabolites and toxins accumulated in tissues, cells, and intercellular fluid
Unload organs responsible for excreting metabolic products, restore kidney, liver, and lung functions
Improve blood parameters, and by thinning the blood, enhance circulation in vessels, eliminate oxygen starvation
Normalize the supply of nutrients to organs and tissues

  • Plasmaferesis is compatible with other treatment methods. It is included in rehabilitation programs after various diseases, such as the coronavirus infection.
  • Plasma blood purification is also performed for preventive purposes. Harmful substances, heavy metal salts, and toxins from air, water, and food accumulate in our bodies. They cause intoxication and chronic diseases. Plasmaferesis is an excellent way to eliminate excess toxins and strengthen health.
  • The main requirement for the procedure is strict adherence to aseptic and antiseptic rules.

Advantages of plasmaferesis
in anti-aging treatment

Deep detoxification of the body
Effective removal of toxins, metabolites, excess cholesterol, and products of glycation reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
Reduction of systemic inflammation
Suppression of chronic inflammation helps prevent premature aging of tissues and reduces the risk of neurodegenerative diseases — such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
Gentle immunomodulation
Reduction of autoimmune load and normalization of immune response helps to decrease the frequency of herpes virus recurrences, stabilize chronic autoimmune processes, and avoid seasonal colds.
Improvement of microcirculation and tissue respiration
Blood plasma purification improves the blood supply to organs and skin, contributing to prevention of arterial hypertension, chronic fatigue syndrome, and age-related skin changes.
Activation of own restorative mechanisms
Stimulation of regenerative processes enhances the effect of other anti-aging procedures and helps slow the development of osteoarthritis, sarcopenia, and hormonal imbalance in the premenopausal and andropausal periods.

How to prepare for the procedure

To undergo plasmaferesis, a prescription from a doctor and blood tests are required:

1
General and biochemical blood tests. It is especially important to know the protein level. If it is too low, the procedure should be avoided.
2
Coagulogram (hemostasiogram) — shows blood clotting ability.
3
HIV, hepatitis B and C
4
An ECG (electrocardiogram) is also required.

Before starting the therapy course, the volume of circulating plasma is calculated. This indicator is strictly individual and depends on the patient's age, sex, and other factors.

1
The patient lies on an equipped couch
2
Blood is taken

In the centrifugation method (more aggressive), the blood is placed in tubes or sterile bags, transferred to a centrifuge, and the plasma is separated from the cells. They are enriched with beneficial elements and returned to the bloodstream along with a saline solution.

3
The membrane technique is gentler, resembling an IV drip

A catheter is inserted into the vein, through which blood is sent to the machine, immediately purified, separated from the plasma, and returned to the patient.

The transfusiologist doctor monitors the process while being present near the patient.

Contraindications for plasmaferesis

There are not many contraindications for the procedure:

  • Severe brain damage
  • Anemia, low hemoglobin levels (below 90 g/l);
  • Acute infections, purulent processes;
  • Coagulation disorders;
  • Low blood pressure;
  • Low protein levels in the blood (less than 60);
  • Surgical and gastrointestinal bleeding, menstruation;

Complications of plasmaferesis

The procedure is safe for the patient if performed considering contraindications, according to the doctor's prescription, and under the control of a qualified specialist. If these conditions are not met, complications and side effects may occur:

  • Pulmonary edema, lung tissue damage;
  • Embolic damage to blood vessels;
  • Acute left ventricular failure;
  • Allergic reaction, anaphylactic shock;
  • Blood infection;
  • Hemorrhagic syndrome (hemorrhages);
  • Coagulation disorders;
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure;
  • Pyrogenic reactions with fever and chills;
  • Hypocalcemia, accompanied by cramps, spasms, aching pains in muscles, numbness of the tongue, lips, and limbs;
If the cleansing is performed professionally, after diagnostic and preparatory procedures, the possibility of complications is minimized.

Plasmaferesis during pregnancy

Blood detoxification is carried out as part of pregnancy preparation, with the following goals:

  • Eliminate toxins from the body, reduce fibrinogen (blood clotting factor) and cholesterol levels;
  • Purify the body from nicotine, which is relevant for smoking women (and their partners as well);
  • Eliminate the symptoms of toxicosis, with effects seen after the second session;
  • Remove excess antibodies that damage tissues;
  • Treat dangerous infections for the fetus: herpes, chlamydia, viral hepatitis, cytomegalovirus;
  • Prevent allergies and skin diseases (psoriasis, dermatitis, bronchial asthma) that may flare up during pregnancy (it is recommended to undergo a course before pregnancy);
  • Reduce weight (relevant for pregnant women and those who want to lose weight).
Plasmaferesis is safe for pregnant women, unlike chemical drugs.

It is also a method for treating infertility. One of the factors preventing conception is the presence of antibodies in the blood against phospholipids and thyroid tissue, antisperm antibodies, as well as lupus anticoagulant. Plasmaferesis is the best way to remove them from the body.
